Have you ever heard of "Molly"? Molly is the new “hip” drug that everyone seems to be talking about. It is made out of five different types of drugs; cocaine, crack, ecstasy, meth and bath salts.

It has been reported that taking just one pill may cause sweating, but but what many users don't know is that the moment they ingest it, the drug begins to cause damage to the brain. By the fifth dose of Molly consumed, the internal organs are being slowly destroyed and may ultimately shut down, resulting in death.

It is important to know that Molly comes in many shapes and sizes and some of the pills are imprinted with designs, cartoons or pictures to make them more appealing. The drug is also known as “Molly’s plant food”, “Eccy”, “Love Drug”, or “MDMA”.

There are a variety of ways to consume Molly; crushing the pill is commonly done in order to snort it or mix in beverages, but orally injesting is the most common way. It is reported that some users anally insert the drug in order to feel its effects faster.

Molly is very dangerous. A four-day exposure to high doses of MDMA can produce brain damage that could still be identified six to seven years later.

Molly became popular in gay night clubs and bars across the country and is being found more and more frequently in many types of communities. The "street price" for Molly can be as high as $150 per gram and if a person is found carrying more than 25 grams or selling it, they may face up to 14 years in jail.

Molly affects users both physically and emotionally, and the effects depend on the strength of the pill consumed. Common side effects that have been reported to occur during or following consumption are:

  • dilated pupils
  • jaw clenching or teeth grinding
  • increased heart rate, body temperature and blood pressure
  • increased confidence and feelings of well being
  • feelings of closeness to others (hence the term "Love Drug")
  • anxiety
  • nausea
  • loss of appetite
  • sweating

Higher doses may cause additional side effects such as:

  • convulsions
  • vomiting
  • floating sensations
  • irrational or bizarre behavior
  • hallucinations

It is said that users of MDMA begin taking the drug as early as age 12. One cause of this may be that many rappers today reference the drug in their music. For instance, the rapper Tyga released a song called “Molly”; another rapper, Trinidad James, recorded a track titled “All Gold Everything” that references the drug in the line, “pop a molly, I’m sweatin”. Other rappers like French Montana, Kanye West, Rick Ross, and Juicy J have also recently referenced the drug in their work.

In conclusion, Molly isn’t safe! If you know someone that has been abusing this drug, you need to get them help right away.
