"Major Player" in Statewide B&E Crew Arrested after Manhunt, SWAT Standoff

Police said Louis Marchetti of 53 Normandy Drive is a "major player" in a crew responsible for numerous housebreaks throughout the state. The alleged burglar who slipped away before his Cranston house was stormed by a SWAT team Saturday night turned himself into police on Monday.

Virus Attacked Police Computers

A virus repeatedly attacked the Barrington Police Department computers last weekend that is is believed to have gotten into the system attached to an email sent to the police chief by a legitimate payroll company. The email-attached virus did not compromise confidential information and no data was lost, said Barrington Police Chief John LaCross.

Remembering Army Spc. Michael Andrade, Casualty of the Iraq War

Tuesday marked the 10th anniversary of the start of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Among the nearly 4,500 American casualties was Army Spc. Michael Andrade of Warren, who was also a volunteer firefighter with the Bristol Fire Department Andrade died on Sept. 24, 2003, from injuries he suffered after a 5-ton fuel truck hit his Humvee in Balad, Iraq.

What reportedly was called in as a brush fire turned out to be the body of a deceased person at the entrance of Pocasset Cemetery in Cranston.

Same-Sex Marriage Hearing Lasts Into Early Morning

By midnight Thursday, people were still testifying for and against the same-sex marriage legislation (S-38) before the state Senate Judiciary Committee. More than 600 people signed up to testify and in groups of four they were called up at a time.
