Chili Cook-Off Earns Donations Towards CCFD Santa Tour

Saturday's Chili Cook-Off, organized by residents Ray and Cheryl Robbio and held at the Coventry Men's Club raised $250 for Central Coventry Fire District's tradition of driving Santa Claus through nearby neighborhoods on a fire truck to greet residents.

Eight particpants entered their crocks of chili, which were then sampled by members of the public and judged. Contestant #4, Dino Falconio earned the most votes for his recipe and was named the winner.

CCFD's annual tradition is in jeopardy after the fire district came under a Special Mastership in October. Despite the fact that CCFD employees volunteer their time to make Santa's visits happen, the cost to fuel the fire truck during the five nights of travel is about $1,800.

According to Ray Robbio, donations can be made by mail this week to support the cause. Checks with "Santa Fund" in the memo line should be made out to:

Raymond Robbio
5461 Flat River Rd.
Greene, RI 02827
