Central Coventry fire crews responded to a reported machine fire at Arkwright Inc., 538 Main St., around 1 a.m. on Thursday.
CCFD Chief Andrew Baynes explained that the fire began in and was confined to a bin machine. An employee attempted to put the fire out and a fixed extinguishing device in the area of the machine was activated, causing the flames to be nearly out when crews arrived.
"There was some minor damage to the machine, but I assume it will be salvageable," said Baynes.
Arkwright Inc. is coater and converter of paper and film for the digital imaging industry.
"The treated paper that they work with at Arkwright is very volatile and highly flammable," Baynes continued. "Because of this, the company has a very robust fire suppression system for events like this."
No injuries were reported.
