My name is Danielle Albro and I am an eleventh grade student at Coventry High School. In 2009 and 2010, I did a pet food/supply drive for the Coventry and West Warwick Animal Shelters as well as The Coventry Food Bank. The response was incredible! A few highlights of my collections were: 765 pounds of dry dog food, 343 cans of dog food; 483 pounds of dry cat food, 389 cans of cat food, 515 pounds of cat litter; and incredible amounts of needed household supplies such as bleach, trash bags and paper towels.
This year, I will be running the drive again. The focus of my drive will be for my Capstone project at Coventry High School. A Capstone is a prerequisite for graduation and requires a student to focus in-depth on a core question/issue of his or her choice. The Capstone Project provides the student with a forum for demonstrating that a student has achieved a learning stretch.
The student will demonstrate his or her ability to analyze information, create new solutions, and implement his or her ideas. I chose to run this drive not only because it was a huge success when I ran it in the past, but also because the West Warwick Animal Shelter and Coventry Pet Food Pantry are always in need of donations. By donating a single bag or can of pet food, you can help tremendously. Gathering supplies for these organizations will help the animals that are waiting to find homes and also help pet owners in these hard economic times.
On Saturday Nov. 10, I will be collecting donations starting at 10 a.m. in the Chandler Drive and Boulder Drive neighborhoods, Sweetwater Drive area, and Hunter's Crossing. All you have to do is leave the item(s) on your front steps and I will come by to pick them up. If you do not live in any of these areas but are interested in donating, please contact me at sbalbro@cox.net and we can arrange for a pickup.
I have spoken with the local shelter and food pantry and donations that are really needed at this time are (but are not limited to):
Purina Cat Chow (blue bag) dry cat and kitten food; canned cat/kitten food; Pedigree dry dog and puppy food; canned gravy dog food; cat litter; cleaning supplies such as paper towels, bleach, Windex, laundry detergent, Dawn dish detergent, large and tall kitchen trash bags; CHEWY dog treats; pet wipes; cat and dog toys.
ALL DONATIONS ARE GREATLY APPRECIATED AND I HOPE YOU CAN HELP! THANK YOU!! (:
