During the federally-funded statewide safety initiative, Click It or Ticket from Sept. 24-30, Coventry Police officers targeted motorists and passengers who failed to wear a seatbelts while driving.
During the week-long crackdown, Coventry officers worked 18 four-hour details at various locations in town. Depnding on the time of the detail, officers monitored intersections on foot, looking for drivers and passengers without seatbelts on or would patrol the streets of Coventry in department cruisers while in search of violators.
The details resulted in 128 stops and 80 seat belt citations at $85 per ticket, totalling $6,800 in fines. Two arrests were also made for operators driving with suspended licenses.
Also during the month of September, officers worked 17 four-hour DUI details resulting in 124 motor vehicle stops, 3 DUI arrests and one suspended license arrest.
